Turning Orange to Green!

The Environmental Ethics class at UTEP found out that the university does not have an environmental policy, even though there are universities who have had one for over a decade. They claim that currently any claims by UTEP about going green is just “green washing” and not a commitment to fully embrace a truly environmental stand and leadership within the community. So they organized and are having a rally inside the university this Wednesday at 10 pm. There will be live music by the always great Mexicans at Night, who by the way are back to the duo line-up, and an acoustic set by the singer of Lusitania plus food and other stuff. Please be involved this is really important, even if you are not a student at UTEP student. We really need more people changing the way we think about our civilization. We have taken more than nature can restore by itself.

Who the hell is Master Slash Slave?

MASTER SLASH SLAVE doesn’t care if you think playing along with preprogrammed keyboards is “cheating”. It’s actually really quite hard, according to Matt Jones, but for the past 3 years he has been going literally from scandal to scandal with just that in mind: classic, early 80’s synths, controlled with MIDI, plus garage-y guitars, live drums, and highly affected vocals singing about pretending to be rich. Problem is, a good drummer is hard to find, in the last 3 years they have done 5 tours (4 of them from California to New York), with 3 different drummers, plus their upcoming fall ‘08 tour and yet another drummer. You gotta see it to believe it!

Master Slash Slave de vuelta

Nuestros amigos MASTE SLASH SLAVE, el dueto de San Francisco regresa a la frontera, pero ahora con nuevo baterista. EPHRIAM NAGLER, quién ha sido el manipulador de audio de Master Slash Slave, se ha encargado de hacer sus grabaciones y se ha ido de gira como ingeniero de sonido con The Good Life, proyecto alterno de Tim Kasher de Cursive, ha sido reemplazado por MATT MORGAN. La lista de bateristas que han tocado en Master Slash Slave sigue creciendo y la única constante sigue siendo el fundador MATT JONES y su gusto por lo sintes de los 80’s y las guitarras garage. En esta ocasión se presentan en The Percolator, el cual ¡ahora vende cerveza!. El show es en martes pero para aquellos que tienen que levantarse temprano les prometemos que no se acabará tarde.

Loudest band

A Place To Bury Strangers es una banda de Brooklyn, que ha sido nombrada la más ruidosa de NY, es un trío conformado por Oliver Ackermann (guitarra/voz), Jono MOFO (bajo) and Jay Space (batería). Es una banda que crea una densa atmósfera de sonidos con una notada influencia y combinación de géneros como el shoegaze, space rock y psicodélia. El 5 de Octubre estarán tocando en Tucson, Arizona.
A propósito, Oliver Ackermann es dueño de la compañía Death by Audio, dedicada a fabricar pedales de efectos, también es un bar/venue y estudio de grabación. Sus pedales han sido usados por Lightning Bolt, Spoon, Wilco y TV on the Radio.

Flow: For Love Of Water es un documental de Irena Salina, una francesa que reside en Nueva York. Este trata acerca la terrible situación que atravesamos en esta época y que ha sido totalmente evadida. Grandes corporaciones como Vivendi, Suez And Thames son las principales transnacionales que tienen el negocio más lucrativo que ha existido, el agua embotellada y de la cual han estado obteniendo ganancias monetarias obscenas con la ayuda del Banco Mundial y a costa de miles de vidas humanas. Flow también habla acerca de la contaminación de nuestras aguas, la industria embotelladora es una de las principales causantes de la destrucción ambiental, piensen en los millones de botellas de plástico que contaminan nuestros alrededores y las toxinas que sueltan en nuestro medio ambiente. Y más de identificar el problema, Flow muestra nueva tecnología para mejorar ésta crisis global, al igual que gente e instituciones que estan haciendo cosas prácticas que ayudan este problema.
¡Toma acción en este problema!
Articulo 31- es una ley que se quiere añadir a la Declaración Universal de Derechos Humanos, que haga fundamental el acceso al agua limpia a todos.

VERBOBALA

Hola.
Esta es una cordial invitación a que asistan a la presentación del colectivo bi-nacional VERBOBALA que tendrá lugar mañana jueves en el 2o piso a las 8pm.
Estos chicos trabajan con video y poesía bilingüe que conjugan de una manera muy emotiva durante sus presentaciones para hacer “spoken video”.
El día de hoy ofrecieron una conferencia en el Instituto de Arquitectura Diseño y Arte (IADA) de Cd. Juárez durante la cual trataron el tema del “Do It Yourself (DIY)” y la importancia que tienen hoy en día la interdisciplinariedad y la creación de redes de trabajo entre artistas independientes. Sinceramente muy inspirador, creo que a más de uno nos hicieron pensar acerca de nuestro ritmo de trabajo y formas de crear.
Para no hacerla tan larga por mi parte les dejo un video de un performance. Se titula “Three times el búho speaks”. También les hago un ctrl+v del artículo escritó por Alicia Fernández después de entrevistarlos.

“Colectivo verbobala expone en IADA

Con la finalidad de incitar a los alumnos de artes visuales de la UACJ a materializar sus ideas y desarrollar su vision artística, se presentó elcolectivo Verbobala el día de ayer en las instalaciones del IADA.
Verbobala es un conjunto bi-nacional de tres artistas compuesto por Adam Cooper, videoasta chincano nacido en Tucson, Logan Phillips, poeta bilingue de la zona fronteriza de Sonora-Arizona y Moisés Regla, artista visual de la Ciudad de México.
Juntos han desarrollado este proyecto multidisciplinario que mezcla las expresiones de cada integrante para realizar piezas de video, las cuales han presentado en lugares como Nueva York, París, Cornwall, la Ciudad de México entre otros.
Este colectivo hace uso de nuevos medios audiovisuales, realiza performance, mezcla y proyecta videos en vivo para crear ambientes totalmente emotivos. La temática de sus piezas toma como punto de partida la transgresión de fronteras, al abarcar cuestiones como la pronografía, la mancha urbana, el retrato, el misticismo y el terrorismo, además incorporan la literatura, la poesía y el arte sonoro, para crear lo que ellos llaman Spoken-Video.
Sin embargo a pesar de partir de aspectos de la realidad ellos buscan en sus presentaciones “sacar al público de lo cotidiano y llevarlos a un espacio ritual que los haga crear conciencia de las situaciones injustas, además de sembrar la semilla de la duda para cuestionar nuestro entorno”, según lo expresaron los jóvenes artistas.
Para finalizar su paso por esta frontera los exponentes se encontrarán hoy jueves y mañana viernes a partir de las 20:00 hrs en el bar llamado Segundo Piso, ubicado en la colonia Córdova Américas, donde realizarán un performance y mezclarán videos originales en vivo, el evento tendrá un costo de un dólar el día de hoy y cinco dólares mañana.”

PARTYSHANK (Londres, UK - So Sweet Records)

Partyshank es un grupo de Londres conformado principalmente por Christian Shank y seguido por Howard P. Sausage, recientemente han sido nominados por la revista inglesa NME la banda con más futuro en el 2008, al igual que el blog Big Stereo y Myspace.com.
Han tocado más de 120 presentaciones este año y han tocado con Chromeo, Foals y Boys Noize. Les dejo un fragmento de una entrevista hecha a Christian Shank por Kid City al comienzo de este mes .
KC: Biggest musical influences?
CS: Ah there are so many, but when it comes to dance music, I used to listen to drum and bass as a kid, so artists like tech itch, lime wax, equinox, macc etc.. But when it comes down to electro, anything with killer builds and really good hooks that get stuck in your head, it’s funny hearing people hummmmm a bassline.
KC: Dude I hum basslines ALL the time. I just found myself humming Penis Vs. Vagina not too long ago, but anyways… tell me about your first experience touring in the U.S.
CS: Haha, well the first show we played was Hi.Fi noise. We got to attend Coachella. Oh and man you guys can party down there. The U.S. is great.
KC: Hell yes haha, we definitely know how to party down here.
CS: You guys are great, and it seems like you are really responsive to Electronic Music.
KC: Well I feel like the U.S. has always been into electronic music, but I seriously cannot believe how much it has evolved in the past couple years. It’s probably due to some of these huge all ages events like EDC. It allows the music to branch out to people that don’t go, or aren’t old enough to go to clubs. Speaking of EDC, how did you guys end up getting on that lineup after just touring in the U.S. for a few months?
CS: Well we are on the So Sweet stage and they put a record out for us a while back, I have a lot of time for Paul from so sweet. Really nice people and have given us a good chance to play in the states.
KC: That’s pretty awesome man. Thanks for doing this interview once again, oh but lastly… Is there any possible way you could get me into EDC, for I am low on funds haha. (Joking, I’m going no matter what, but oh my god that would be so incredible if you could get me in somehow).
CS: HAHAH I’ll try dude, first I have to see how many girls I have to give g-list away to first haha.

Desde Hamburgo, Alemania y de las prestigiadas disqueras Boys Noize Records (Boys Noize, Strip Steve) y Turbo Recordings. (Tiga, Jesper Dahlback, Black Strobe, Crossover) D.I.M viene a Cd. Juárez.
Andreas Meid - D.I.M - ha estado muy ocupado produciendo desde que salió “Sysiphos” el cual fue nominado a un Grammy. D.I.M ha remixeado a Midnight Juggernauts, K.I.M., The Presets, al igual que Junkie XL, Teenage Bad Girl y Chromeo entre muchos más. Actualmente tiene un proyecto con Boys Noize el cual se llama PUZIQUE.
